Hello Pine View Elementary Families!
The Elementary Student Council has requested that I send you this TOP SECRET communication about Teacher Appreciation Week (next week). Of course I also wanted to add the list of upcoming activities, for your reference. Please understand that information about Teacher Appreciation Week is shared with you in the spirit of fun, and please do not feel that there is any expectation that you participate! We feel your appreciation every day and we appreciate you and your children as well! Have a beautiful weekend! Upcoming Events: 4/29/19 – 5/3/19 – Teacher Appreciation Week – see TOP SECRET attachment in "resources" tab Thursday, 5/2/19 – 9:15 – 10:00 a.m. – Elementary Parent Coffee – Student Union Friday, 5/3/19 – Last Elementary Spirit Dress-up Day of the Year! The day’s theme is “Inspirational Shirts”. Each grade is competing to win for highest participation and spirit! Friday, 5/3/19 – Senior Day – This doesn’t affect families per se, but it is a wonderful event that I wanted to publicize. On senior day, our 12th graders have breakfast in the student union, they receive awards at a ceremony and then – this is my favorite part – they parade around campus in their caps and gowns! It is so exciting to see the 12th graders marching on the same parade route they marched on so many years ago in elementary school… And it is exciting for the younger students to see them go by and to wish them well. (This is a yearly event, so please don’t worry if your child misses it for any reason!) Saturday, 5/4/19 – Astronomy Night – 8 – 10 p.m. – (see attachment) Wednesday, 5/8/19 – Parent Book Club – 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. – discussing chapters 4 and 5 of The Power of Presence. Location TBA Thursday, 5/16/19 – Parent Book Club – 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. – discussing final chapters of the book, The Power of Presence. Location TBA Thursday, 5/23/19 – 4th grade awards ceremony – 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, 5/24/19 – 5th grade brunch and moving up ceremony – 9:15 – 11:30 – Please note that 4th grade parents typically volunteer to host the brunch so the 5th grade parents can focus on the celebration. If you can participate in helping run this event, please sign up using the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C044BA8AB2CA2FD0-solicitation Have a wonderful weekend. Thank you for allowing us to serve you and your children. 😊 Alison Rini and the Elementary Team

Hello All!
My apologies - I sent out the incorrect date for the Python Run in my previous email. The correct date is Saturday, April 13th. Please see attachment for registration form - the forms have also gone home in backpacks. The elementary students will also participate in the P.E. Department's Spirit Day the day before - Friday, April 12th. If you are able to volunteer or help out with the games and activities, please contact Liz Ballard. A permission form will be going home after Spring Break, but we wanted you to have advance notice of the date - it is always a great time! Have a wonderful day! Hello PV Elementary Families,
We have a few updates to share with you regarding upcoming dates and events. First of all, thank you all SO MUCH for the incredibly generous donations to our book drive to benefit our third grade friends at Alta Vista Elementary School! 107 third graders from Alta Vista arrived at Pine View this morning for our second annual Literacy Lollapalooza. Pine View Families donated so many gorgeous, high-quality books, and they were right at the 3rd graders’ reading level! Each third grade visitor went home with FOUR new chapter books and TWO picture books as well! Some of the visitors were literally screaming with excitement! 😊 I had to deliver something to their bus right before they left to go back to their school and even though there were over 50 kids on the bus, it was pin-drop quiet – EVERYONE was reading! We are so lucky to have so many resources to share, and I can’t thank you all enough for the impact you had on some very grateful kids. On a separate note, we need to share that the YMCA has decided to discontinue their aftercare program here at Pine View. Aftercare will end after this week. (Before care is not affected, and will continue through the end of the year.) When we surveyed families last year about interest in aftercare, the YMCA thought the program would be financially viable, but due to low enrollment it was not. This announcement came as a surprise to us, and we are sorry for any inconvenience. Upcoming Dates: Thursday, 2/28/19, 9:15 am – Elementary Parent Coffee in the Student Union. Our topics for this week will include the class scheduling/teacher assignment process as well as a discussion of student electronics. Saturday, 3/2/19, 11 am – 4 pm – Pine View Fair! The Fair might be the most exciting fundraiser for our students – our whole campus is transformed with rides and booths and food galore! You will be impressed with how independent your children can be, and I recommend signing up to run a ride or help out as a great way to meet other parents and to support our school. The sign-up link is here: https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/30e0b49afac2ca3fc1-pine1 Monday, 3/4/19, 4 pm – 7 pm – 5th grade fundraiser at Chick-fil-a! Please see note from the sponsor: Please support our 5th graders by coming out to the new Chick-fil-A located at 8400 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota on Monday, March 4th, from 4-7pm. 20% of sales to Pine View families during those 3 hours will be donated to the PV Class of 2026! Make sure to let the employees know when ordering that you are supporting Pine View Spirit Night. Drive-thru sales count too! If you have any questions please contact Alyson Treadway at [email protected] Friday, 3/15/19 – Friday 3/22/19 – No School – Spring Break Thursday, 3/28/19, 9:15, Media Center – Parent Book Club – We are starting a new book called The Power of Presence, by Joy Thomas Moore. Please email Fiona Long with any questions: [email protected] Friday, 3/29/19 – Elementary Spirit Day – Dress like a movie or Disney character Day! Participation is free and classes with the most participation earn bragging rights. 😊 Friday, 3/29/19 – Kids Night Out – Sign your child up for a great night of fun, benefiting the sophomore class. Friday, 4/5 and Saturday 4/6 – Pine View Drama Club Play: Newsies! - The spring play is always a musical, and our younger students love seeing the older ones perform. As an adult, I have to say I love it too! Saturday, 4/13/19 – Python Run – Pine View students are talented in so many ways! Come on out and join us for a 5k through campus and the surrounding neighborhood. Please see attached registration form (in resources) if you are interested in participating. (DATE CORRECTED - 4/13!) Have a great weekend! Alison Rini Dear Pine View Families,
We hope you are doing well, and wanted to let you know about an upcoming book drive here at Pine View. Many of you may be aware of the longstanding partnership Pine View has with our buddy school, Alta Vista Elementary. In Pine View’s first decades of existence, our campuses were adjacent, and Alta Vista graciously shared their facilities and resources. Pine View was able to use their fields, gym, and cafeteria before we had these facilities of our own. In recent years we have resurrected our partnership through the district program, Up With Books, which brings different elementary schools together over a shared love of literacy. Some of our classes have formed “book buddies” and we have visited Alta Vista and welcomed them to our campus for different activities and celebrations. Soon their 3rd graders will visit us again, and we are collecting used books so they can each go home with a book to read. We know Pine View students are voracious readers, but if anyone is ready to clean out their bookshelves, we wanted to let you know about the titles we are currently collecting. If you have any of the following titles to donate, please feel free to send them into the office between now and February 20th. Diary of a Wimpy Kid series Dog Man series I Survived series Goosebumps series Any graphic novels Who Would Win Series Magic Treehouse Series Flat Stanley Junie B. Jones Rainbow Fairy Series Thank you for your help and support, and have a great week! Read on, Pine View! 😊 Alison Rini Hello Pine View Elementary Families,
We hope you are doing very well! I wanted to quickly bring your attention to an exciting and time-sensitive opportunity. You have probably heard about the PVA auction that is taking place on Saturday at Selby Gardens. However, I wanted to make sure that everyone knows about some of the items that EVERYONE can take a look at and bid on, whether or not you are able to attend the event. Here is the link for the online silent auction: https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/auctionhome.action?vhost=pineview I wanted to alert you to the items listed for sale, especially A) Class Creations and B) Pine View’s Own. A) Class Creations are beautiful works of art created by different classes that provide long-lasting memories of your child’s elementary school experience at Pine View. The students in different classes worked together to create paintings, collages, and photographs that represent both our students’ uniqueness and our community’s bonds. These works of art are compelling on their own, but coupled with the memories of our amazing students and teachers, they are truly priceless. B) Pine View’s Own is a category of unforgettable experiences, offered by Pine View’s dedicated faculty and staff. There are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to spend a day off campus with your child’s favorite staff member, or special events that could be incorporated into a school day. It is fun for us to get to spend time with students outside of the normal day’s activities, and all funds raised come right back to support our school. If you read through the events with your child, you will see how well our teachers know their students and their interests! Our before- and aftercare partners, the Sarasota YMCA, are also excited to announce a new aftercare club format. You will receive hard copies via backpack, but we wanted to share the info electronically as well for your convenience - see attachments for club topics and registration paperwork. Have a great afternoon! Alison Rini P.S. This and all family newsletters can always be accessed on Pine View’s website. Where: The Student Union When: Wednesdays 4-5 pm (after 5:15 pm you will have to register with the YMCA for childcare) First day: 1/9/2019 Who: All levels of players (grades 2-5). Some high school players are available for coaching. Parent volunteers are welcome. Teacher volunteers: Sara Kolsky, Rebecca Kochenderfer, James Ross, Paul Dean Hello Pine View Elementary Families!
We hope you are all doing very well. Here are some updates of exciting events coming up in the next few weeks. Elementary Parent Coffee –Thursday, 11/29/18, from 9:15 – 10:00 in the Multi-Purpose Room. Topics planned for discussion include gathering your thoughts on homework and sharing information about twice exceptional students’ experience at Pine View. (“Twice exceptional students” are those who are gifted and have additional exceptionalities such as ADHD). November Elementary Spirit Day – Friday, 11/30/18 – Students can dress like a twin or a triplet – coordinating outfits with another student or students. Elementary student council organizes these spirit days for fun – there is no fee to participate, and of course it is completely optional. Pine View Python Chorus – Tuesday, 12/4/18 – 6:30 – 7:30 pm. All are welcome to join us for an evening of holiday music performed by our elementary chorus, with leadership by Ms. Shepler. Run with the Principal – Friday, 12/7/18 – 8:15 – 8:45 am. All are welcome to join our FREE before-school Run Club, which meets at the track every day from 8:15 – 8:45. (Runners, joggers, and walkers are all welcome, including parents.) Dr. Covert joins from time to time, and on Friday the 7th I will be out there, running along with the students. It is such a joy to participate because spending time on the track is such a great way to start the day! Research has proven how beneficial exercise is to the brain as well as the body, and our students who attend run club benefit from increased focus, patience, and self-control due to brain chemicals (BDNF) stimulated by exercise. If your child would like to attend, please have him/her pick up paperwork in the main office to get registered. Again, it is FREE! Daddy-Daughter Dance – Friday, 12/7/18 – 6:00 – 8:30 pm. We welcome all elementary daughters and dads (or special friends) to join us for a magical evening. Many students and dads come back year after year for this beautiful event, sponsored by the Class of 2020. Please pick up information at the office if you would like to buy your ticket ahead of time. We promise it will be an unforgettable evening! Homework Committee Coming Soon – We are collecting feedback in order to look at our homework policies. We will send out additional information regarding meeting dates for the new committee after the new year. In the meantime, please feel free to share your feedback via our homework survey, which can be accessed here: Homework Survey (Can also be accessed as a tab on the Resources subpage of this web site!) Elementary Informational Web Site – Please note that these updates will now be available on the new elementary web site. It can be accessed under the Student Life tab on the Pine View web site, or directly via this link: https://pineviewelementary.weebly.com/ We hope you are all doing very well, and we thank you for your ongoing support of our amazing teachers and incredible students.
